Hello! Greetings from Antarctica.
Here are a few items that may be of interest to fibrey-folks, compiled before I left!
How's this for a rug hooking room? Does your room look like this?
Check out the full article here, from a 2015 magazine.
Here's a sculpture project, using embroidery thread - a LOT of embroidery thread.
A bunch of japanese patterns have been published online and they're all copyright free. This would go very with a theme we're working on for the fall of "weather".
While this isn't very textile-ish, the video below is an interesting one about rope-making.
The next 3 links are all on machines that are mesmerizing to watch!

Assorted Items for January
Happy New Year to you and to yours, and happy hooking!
Here's an assortment of items for your viewing enjoyment, collected from Facebook and other sources:
- Above is a fascinating video about folks who do Sankalan embroidery, but to me it looks like they're doing rug hooking. The "hooking" part starts at about the 1 minute mark. Don't those look like pencil hooks, and isn't there a technique that does decorative designs kinda like this? I also like their method to transfer a pattern, but it's very labour intensive!
- The making of braided rugs - an interesting video.
- The non-sewers way of finishing rugs with glue.
- We've featured videos on flax processing before, but this one looks at a more automated approach - from a 1951 BBC film.
- And just in case you've always wondered about this....how a sewing machine works!
- This was just on the OHCG Facebook page - check out these gorgeous rugs this man is making.
