Here are some instructions based on a 2009 Rug Hooking Magazine article by Angela Possak.
Pick a day with powdery new snow, if you can. Slushy snow won’t work as well for this process. Start with a cold rug....let it sit somewhere cold for a few hours. Makes sense, as you don’t want the snow to melt on contact with the rug.
Cover the cold rug with a thin layer of snow and work it around with a broom or brush. You’re not going to remove stains with this method, but you will pickup dust and dirt and generally freshen your rug. Repeat until you’re safisified with the result. Shake off the excess snow and head indoors.
The completed rug will be damp-ish, so lay it on a drying rack overnight. Vacuum the rug the next day, and you’re done!
