Pooped but pleased!

I

Well that’s another hook in completed!  We had a great turn out for this year’s event, Hook the Town Red, celebrating all things red.   There was a great display of rugs, prizes to the won, and the all-important vendors.

Brenda Ashton led things off with the Indigenous Acknowledgement and told us about her artwork created for Truth and Reconciliation.

Next up our keynote speaker, Hilda Van Netten, showed us her inspiring artwork and led us in an exercise to hone our drawing skills. It was challenging for sure, but in a fun way! She also showed us a series of portraits she has created and told us about her work and participants at the Greenwood Coalition’s Art Hive.

Several of our activities raised funds for the Coalition: a Buck or 2 Table, workshop kits, 50/50, among other things.  We also had a drive to collect cold weather items for Greenwood’s participants - and got a humongous whack of stuff!  Thank you all very much.

The display of rugs was, as always, wonderful and inspiring.  Votes were cast and the winners were:  Alternate Fibres/Items - Joan VerKuyl; Fine Cut - Lynda Johnston; Wide Cut - Debbie Harris; Theme (aka RED!) - Dianne Algera

We also registered a couple of rugs, too!

In the afternoon, after the draws and prizes were handed out, we had a couple of mini workshops to create cardinal and leaf projects which looked to be a whole lotta fun.

A big thank you to all of our participants - we hope you enjoyed yourselves, learned a bit and shopped a lot! Many of you came from quite a distance!

Thank you also to our speakers, Brenda Ashton and Hilda Van Netten….both very inspiring!

Another big thank you goes to our vendors: Nancy Malette’s Honey products, Rosemary Toth’s Jewelery, Heartfelt Fibres, Thistles & Sticks, Artworks by Karen, Yarn It, Willowcreek Rug Hooking, Yarnsomniacs and Chris Poole.

A huge thank you to the members of the Northumberland Rug Hookers who stepped up to organize and direct and bake and shepherd and donate and more.  Hopefully you’re now all sitting with your feet up and an adult beverage in hand

And the hugest of thank you’s to our Dianne Algera who kept us all on track, mc’d the proceedings and marshalled the day to a successful conclusion.

Mark your calendars for October 2028, and our next hook-in! What colour should we feature then?
