PORT HOPE FALL FAIR

The Port Hope Fall Fair was a BIG success again this year and we demonstrated both days at the Fair and saw quite a few young and young at heart people interested in our passion of traditional rug hooking.  This is a rug of Dianne Algera's that we had at the demo booth.  It was so nice to see John and others interacting with children and letting them hook in his piece, they were thrilled.  Thanks to all those who demonstrated over the 2 days and of course to Dianne who collects and delivers all the rugs.  Check out our photo page for more beautiful rugs!

Happy Canada Day to you all!

I was checking my  e-mail and a tip came in from the Rug Hooking Magazine that said that...........

by choosing textured or plaid wool this adds interest and hints of other colors within the pattern element you’re hooking. The wool you choose and the way you hook it can have a big impact on the finished look of your rug!
Also you can see the second photo that mixes of blues give the ocean movement.

If you have thought what size of rug do you want to make, well you are not alone.  So often patterns are only 1 standard size, hmmmm, do I want it bigger? maybe to be a statement in a family room, entrance or dining room well...........I was reading a blog on Martina Lesar's website click here to view martina lesar website then click on her blog where she states to make a  pattern larger pick one that can be repeated.  She has a beautiful example of how this was done! Summer and Rug Hooking

Have you ever noticed that once the warm weather hits that you rug hook less? We have such busy lives and then add the pull of the outdoors and sunshine and guess what?? Your rug hooking lies in a corner until the leaves start falling..........................

a couple of tips to keep you going through the summer!

Hook Outside!  Yes set up your frame or grab your hoop and a nice cool place to sit and enjoy your garden as you hook.  You will find inspiration from all that beauty and YES a cold glass of lemonade is always a good idea!

Hook for 5 minutes a day!  YES it makes a difference!  I have been trying to do this and over the past week it is making a dent in the never ending border I am doing and you know what?  you might just sit there for more than 5 minutes!

Hook a small project!
Maybe a pillow or get a head start on some Christmas ornaments, YES, it's not too early!

Whatever you do enjoy your surroundings, take a breath and smile!
